Organic work for PIM, returns, wholesale and store systems vendors, built around the shortlist moment rather than a content calendar.
About this service
We take business software work on one condition: the buyer at the other end is a merchandiser, an e-commerce director, or someone running retail operations. Product information management, returns and reverse logistics, wholesale ordering, product content, store systems, pricing. We know how those buyers search because we spend the rest of our week working inside their catalogues. Horizontal business software, developer infrastructure and anything sold to a CFO, we decline, and we decline it often enough that it is worth saying up front rather than after a discovery call.
What organic can and cannot do in this sales cycle:
It cannot manufacture demand for a category a buyer has no budget line for. Where it works is at the moment a retailer has already decided to replace something and is drawing up a shortlist, which in this market runs six to fifteen weeks from first search to first demo. That means the pages that matter are the ones a shortlist gets built from, and there are fewer of them than a content calendar assumes.
Integration and compatibility pages:
The highest-intent query in retail software is your product plus the system the buyer already runs. Shopify Plus, Centra, commercetools, NetSuite, an ERP nobody outside the industry has heard of. We build these only for integrations that genuinely exist and are supported, one page per integration, each written against what the connector actually syncs and what it does not. A page promising an integration your solutions team then has to explain away is worse for pipeline than no page.
Documentation as an entry point:
Your docs already rank for problems your prospects have. Most of the time they sit on a subdomain nobody in marketing can edit, with no path from a solved problem to a commercial page. We work with your technical writers on indexation, on the internal routes out of documentation, and on which reference pages should be excluded because they attract support traffic and no buyers.
Comparison pages:
We will write against named competitors, with their current pricing and a table your sales engineers have signed off. We will not publish a comparison your own team could not defend on a call, and we do not touch the alternatives-page format where a competitor's name carries traffic to a page that fails to mention what they are genuinely better at.
What we refuse:
Targets expressed in qualified leads. We do not control your form, your routing or your follow-up, and accepting a number that depends on all three is how agencies end up arguing about lead quality instead of doing the work. Content programmes measured by publication volume. Writing to a persona document rather than to transcripts of your own sales calls. Ranking reports as a deliverable.
How we work:
We need recordings or notes from twelve recent sales conversations, half of them lost. That is the input the whole engagement runs on, and if your team cannot release them, this is not going to work. From there: query mapping against the shortlist moment, a page inventory that usually recommends deleting more than it adds, and specifications written into your existing stack, whether that is Webflow, Next.js or a headless CMS your team already maintains.
Reporting:
Organic sessions to the pages we built, demo requests attributed by first non-brand organic touch using your own analytics rather than ours, and a quarterly read of which integration pages produced conversations that reached a second call.
