Subreddit and Forum Presence Under Real Names

Every account we post from carries the operator's own name and Brackenhill Channel in the bio. That costs reach for the first month, because a disclosed account gets less benefit of the doubt on r/gamedev than an anonymous one does, and it is the only version of this work that survives a moderator deciding to check. Vote manipulation on Reddit is detected at the domain level, not the account level, so the downside of the alternative is that your site stops working as a link anywhere on the platform, permanently. Accounts and disclosure: We use two kinds of account. Ours, named and disclosed, which answer questions and never submit links to your properties. And yours, held by your developers, which we prepare and brief but do not operate. Where a subreddit offers verified developer or verified project flair, we apply for it and wait, which on the larger gaming subreddits takes two to five weeks. We do not buy aged accounts, we do not run a second account for the same person, and if a moderator asks who we work for, the answer is already in the bio. Where we work: On the games side: r/gamedev, r/IndieDev, r/pcgaming and the platform-specific subreddits, your Steam Community hub treated as a support surface rather than a marketing one, itch.io devlogs, and ResetEra, whose paid registration and PR disclosure rule we follow exactly as written. On the crypto side: r/ethdev and the developer subreddits, the Ethereum Magicians forum and ethresear.ch, where a post is a technical argument that will be picked apart and not a launch announcement, and Farcaster channels. We read a forum's rules and its recent removals before posting anything, and we will tell you when a venue that looks important is actually dead, which is currently true of most Bitcointalk announcement threads. What a month looks like: Seven to twelve substantive replies from disclosed accounts, most of them answering a question that had nothing to do with you and mentioning you only where it is the honest answer. One or two longer technical posts from your own engineers, edited here, published under their names. Moderator contact maintained in the four venues where you have the most to lose. An AMA is scheduled with moderators four weeks ahead, not four days, and only when there is something to be asked about. Refusals: Sockpuppets. Purchased or aged accounts. Upvote services and coordinated voting of any kind. Posting text under a founder's name that the founder has not read line by line. Astroturfed complaints about a competitor. Threads on 4chan. Paying a moderator for anything, ever, including a sponsored post arrangement that is not disclosed in the post itself. Excluded from scope: Discord server operation, which is a different practice and we will refer you. Paid Reddit advertising. Review site placement. Wikipedia editing, which is a conflict of interest we will not take on your behalf. And any venue whose rules prohibit commercial participation, regardless of how well enforced you believe those rules to be. What we count: Threads where a named team member's reply became the top comment. Support questions answered in public before they arrived in your inbox. Moderator relationships that survived a rule change. Inbound conversations that started in a DM to one of these accounts. Mention volume is not on that list; it counts a scraper's opinion of relevance and nothing a user did. Not for you if: You need a specific number of posts per week. That is content production against a quota and it is what gets accounts banned. Also not for you if nobody on your engineering side will put fifteen minutes a week into a thread. The disclosed agency account can hold a conversation; it cannot be the technical authority, and everyone reading can tell the difference.
