Every competitor referring domain classified by how it was acquired, then a ranked memo on the few mechanisms you can repeat.

About this service

Most link gaps are not link gaps. When a competitor's referring domains are classified by how each one was actually acquired, 60 to 75 percent typically turn out to be unrepeatable: parent company properties, conference sponsorships, an acquisition announcement, a viral week in 2021, a founder's university. What remains is a short list of mechanisms you could genuinely run, and it is often smaller than the internal linking problem sitting on your own site. This engagement establishes which of those three situations you are in before a budget goes near outreach. The method: Referring domains come from Ahrefs and Majestic and are reconciled, since the two disagree by a wide margin in games and sports where much of the link graph sits on forums and community wikis. Domains with no organic traffic and no direct audience come out immediately. Every survivor is classified into one of eight acquisition mechanisms: editorial mention, data citation, product review, partnership or integration listing, employee byline, community and forum, directory or aggregator, and paid or manipulated. Fifty domains per competitor are then verified by hand. That means opening the page, finding the sentence and reading why the link is there. Classification from metrics alone gets this wrong often enough to change the conclusion, which is why the work takes two weeks rather than an afternoon. The second half is the part usually skipped. Each classified link is mapped to the page it points at, and those pages are checked against query-level Search Console data to see whether they earn anything. A competitor with 400 links to a page nobody searches for has a vanity profile rather than an advantage, and you should not spend a rupee chasing it. What the memo says: Three mechanisms worth building against, ranked, with what each costs in months and money and what your company would have to become to earn them. The mechanisms deliberately excluded, with reasons. The pages of yours that would benefit first. And the single change on your own site likely to move before any external link does, which in this sector is usually internal linking out of tournament, patch or fixture pages that hold authority and pass none of it on. Not included: No outreach. This is analysis, and mixing the two lets the analysis quietly justify the outreach. No Ahrefs or Semrush export handed over as a deliverable, which is the common product here and is worth roughly what the tool subscription costs. No toxicity scoring and no disavow file, because disavow is the wrong instrument for almost every site that asks for it and Google discards manipulative links without your help. No prediction of ranking positions. Who this is not for: Anyone who already knows what they want the answer to be. Twice I have delivered a memo whose conclusion was that the client's link profile was ahead of the competitor they were worried about, and that their real problem was mobile page speed in India. That is a legitimate outcome and you should be willing to receive it. Also not for teams without Search Console access, since half the method depends on knowing which pages earn. Format and timing: Two weeks from data access. Delivery is a classified spreadsheet, a memo of roughly fifteen pages, and a 90-minute call with whoever will act on it. I would rather present to the person holding the budget than to a coordinator who has to relay it.
