Index decisions, locator architecture and a single source of truth for retail estates of eight to several hundred trading locations.

About this service

Past roughly thirty locations, store pages stop being a writing problem and become an indexation one. An estate with a page per store, per city and per category has already produced more URLs than Google will crawl at any useful frequency, and the ones that lose that competition are reliably the transactional pages. So the first deliverable here is an index decision, taken before a single line of location copy is written: which location URLs deserve crawl, which should exist for shoppers while carrying noindex, and which should not exist at all. The reconciliation: We put three lists side by side that are almost never equal. Stores that trade, according to your operations team. Stores with a Business Profile. Stores with a URL in your sitemap. In every estate we have taken on, that comparison has disagreed with itself: closed branches still indexed and still taking calls, stores trading for months with no page, franchise addresses duplicated against the corporate profile. Fixing that disagreement has moved more revenue than any content work we then did. The locator: A locator that renders its store list only after a client-side call is a locator Google reads as an empty page, and a locator that puts every store behind a postcode input has no crawlable path to any of them. We specify the server-rendered version, the URL pattern for region and city tiers, and where the tier stops. In most estates the city tier earns its place and the region tier does not. Cannibalisation: Your national category page and two hundred store pages will compete for the same head query, and the store page usually wins the impression it cannot convert. We set the canonical and internal linking rules so store pages take genuinely local intent and hand everything else upward, then verify against Search Console query-by-page data rather than against a rank tracker. Schema and profile operations at scale: LocalBusiness markup generated from the same source of truth that feeds the locator and the Business Profile API, so a change to opening hours in one system does not have to be made in three. We build the feed and the validation, then hand operation of it to your team. We do not want to be the people who edit your Christmas hours. Not included: Rewritten paragraphs for each location to make templates look unique. That approach was already thin when it worked and now costs crawl budget for nothing. Landing pages for towns where you have no store. Adjudicating disputes between franchisees over shared catchments, which is a commercial argument, not a search one. Any work on paid local inventory. Who should not book this: Estates under eight locations, where the single-store engagement does the same job for less. Retailers who cannot get a developer onto the locator template within the engagement, because everything above depends on that template changing. How the work runs: Weeks one to three are reconciliation and the index decision, delivered as a URL-level disposition list your team can act on without us. Weeks four to eight are template and schema specification, worked directly with your engineers in their tracker rather than as a PDF. From week nine we hold a fortnightly review against store-level organic sessions and, where you can supply it, in-store revenue attributed to the store page. Rank positions are not in the report.
