Listing attributes, category nodes and variation parentage worked to each platform's own rules, plus what your listings do to your own site.

About this service

A marketplace listing and your own product page compete for the same query, and on most brand catalogues the marketplace wins. That is not automatically a loss, but it should be a decision. This engagement covers both sides of it: how a listing performs inside the marketplace's own search engine, and what your presence on Amazon, Zalando, Etsy, OTTO, Bol or Faire does to the visibility of your direct site. Two search engines, different rules: Marketplace ranking is driven by conversion rate on the listing and by attribute completeness, not by anything resembling a backlink. Amazon reads the backend search term field, capped at 250 bytes, and ignores repetition of words already in the title. Etsy weights the first words of a 140-character title and all thirteen tags, and penalises listings whose tags do not match the category node. The European platforms, OTTO and Zalando in particular, rank almost mechanically on attribute completeness against their category schema. We work each of these to its own rules rather than pushing one optimised title everywhere. Attributes and category nodes: Most listing underperformance we are called about is a category node chosen years ago by whoever uploaded the first batch, plus half the attribute schema left empty because the fields were optional at upload. Fixing the node is disruptive, it resets some ranking signals, and it is often still right. We will tell you when it is not worth it. Variations: Parentage decides whether reviews and sales history pool or scatter. Splitting a colourway out of its parent to chase a separate keyword is a trade most brands make without seeing what it costs in review count on the survivor. We model it before touching it, and in apparel and kids' ranges we usually recommend against. The Google side: Your listings will outrank your own product pages for brand-plus-product queries unless you give Google a reason to prefer yours. That reason is not markup, it is content the marketplace listing structurally cannot carry: full sizing tables, safety and compliance documentation, care and repair, the assembly guide, the spare parts. We specify what goes on your page for that purpose, and we tell you honestly which product lines are not worth defending. Not included: Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands or any marketplace advertising. Review generation, incentivised or otherwise, including insert cards. Account health, suspension appeals and brand registry disputes. Managing your listings as an ongoing operational service, which belongs with the team that owns your stock. Who this is not for: Sellers whose catalogue is resold goods they did not manufacture, where the listing is shared and there is nothing to optimise. Anyone who needs results before their next quarterly review, because listing changes need a clean measurement window and we hold changes for at least twenty-eight days before reading them. Measurement: Marketplace-side, we read impressions and conversion from the platform's own reporting, per listing, against the pre-change baseline. Google-side, we track which of the two properties holds the position for your brand-plus-product set. Both go into one monthly note. If a change made a listing worse, it appears in that note, and we roll it back before proposing the next one.
