Twelve-month ambassador rosters in Japan: usage rights and tax settled first, six to ten creators second, and a reason to stay past month six.

About this service

Ambassador programs in Japan fail on paperwork months before they fail on chemistry, and the two documents that end them are the usage clause and the invoice. A fee for a post buys the post. Running that post as a paid ad, cutting it into a television commercial, and printing the creator's face on in-store point of sale are three separately priced rights, and Japanese agencies quote them by medium and by term, usually in three, six or twelve month blocks. Separately, since 1 October 2023 a creator without a qualified invoice registration number — the letter T followed by thirteen digits — leaves you unable to deduct consumption tax on their fee. Your accounting team discovers this in month four and freezes payments. We settle both before anyone discusses who should be on the roster. Who ends up on the roster: Six to ten people across a year, not forty on rolling three-month terms. Tiered by the job they do rather than by audience size: one technical explainer who will read a spec sheet before filming, one taste-maker whose audience buys on their say-so, one community anchor who answers comments at midnight. Our first deliverable on an existing roster is usually a list of who is missing, not a list of who to add more of. The contracts: Withholding at 10.21 percent on fees paid to individuals below one million yen, handled before the first payment rather than discovered at year end. Secondary usage priced per medium and term at brief stage, when it is cheapest and grantable. Exclusivity written narrow, category-specific, time-boxed and paid for; we will not draft a whole-category exclusivity nobody costed. For agency-managed virtual talent, the character IP stays with the agency: you cannot place the model in your own creative, clips cannot be reuploaded to your channels, and archives can be taken down under agency policy, so the contract states an archive retention period or the asset you paid for quietly disappears. Why anyone stays past month six: The fee holds nobody. What holds people is product before launch, a named person at your company who replies the same day, genuine input into the next SKU, and a floor that is paid in a quarter when there is no brief. We design those four first and the content calendar second, because a roster that only hears from you when something is needed behaves accordingly. What is not included: We are not a talent agency. We take no management cut from any creator, we show you what each is paid, and we do not sign talent exclusively to ourselves. We do not produce the content. We do not run your paid amplification, though we will make sure the rights exist for whoever does. Who this is not for: Brands wanting forty micro creators on rolling terms, which is a different discipline and cheaper elsewhere. Brands that cannot pay within thirty days: Japanese creator agencies talk to each other, and your payment reputation is the largest single factor in who accepts your second brief. Brands who want an ambassador's feed to look like their brand book, which is a licence for a photograph and should be bought as one.
