About this service

An AMA is a staffing commitment before it is a media buy. The host sits at a keyboard for three uninterrupted hours and writes thirty to forty answers in their own voice, and the first ninety minutes decide whether the thread ranks at all. Everything around it is scaffolding for that. If the host cannot give the three hours, there is no version of this that works, and I would rather say it now than invoice for it. The engagement covers Reddit's conversation placement, where ads are served between comments inside a thread, together with the paid and organic work around a hosted AMA. They belong together because conversation placement is what gives an AMA a second life in the weeks after the thread stops ranking. Choosing the room: Rarely r/IAmA. That community wants proof of identity and a reason to care, and it has a long memory for corporate hosts. A VP of Talent belongs in r/recruiting. A strength coach belongs in r/weightroom and would be taken apart in r/Fitness. A dealer principal belongs in r/askcarsales and close to nowhere else. The room is chosen with its moderators, in a message sent at least ten days ahead, and if the mods decline, the answer is no rather than a different tactic. The two weeks before: Proof and verification arranged in the format that room uses. No questions are seeded. What happens instead is preparation on the eight or nine questions that will certainly be asked, including the two the communications team wants to avoid, with an agreed honest answer to each before the thread opens. Where no honest answer exists, the AMA is cancelled and I say why in writing. Timing is set for a weekday mid-morning in the host's own timezone, never a Friday. The three hours: The host types. I watch sort order, flag the questions that are climbing, and handle thread mechanics. Downvoted questions get answered anyway, and that answer is usually the one quoted afterwards. Conversation placement: Different craft from feed buying. The unit sits between two comments written by strangers, so the copy is short, it does not open with the brand name, and it earns its place by being adjacent to what the reader was already reading. Community and keyword targeting are set per placement, and inventory settings are tighter than in the feed because you do not control the comment above yours. I run a two-province holdout to keep an honest read on lift, rather than reporting view-through conversions as though they were clicks. What I will not do: Write the answers, or type as the host. Organise or buy upvotes, which violates a sitewide rule and takes the account and the domain with it. Ask moderators to remove critical comments. Run an AMA within six weeks of a layoff, an acquisition announcement or an active labour dispute. In those weeks the thread becomes the story, and no amount of media around it changes what the story is. Who should not book this: Executives who need answers cleared by legal before posting. The approval loop is longer than the thread's useful life, and a slow, careful AMA reads as evasive whether or not it is. Also wrong for organisations with no named person the audience has a reason to want to talk to. A brand account is not a host, and the room will say so in the first ten comments.
