Audit and renegotiation of Honey, Karma, Klarna and Cashrewards deals: click-latency evidence, checkout-stage rates, upstream placements bought as media.

About this service

You are probably paying a flat CPA for two entirely different pieces of media. A shopping extension can put a price comparison in front of a buyer who has not chosen a retailer yet, or it can fire a click on your checkout page eleven seconds before an order that was already happening. Honey, Karma, Klarna, Cashrewards and Little Birdie all do both, through the same tracking link, and a single commission rate pays for both at the same price. This engagement separates them and repapers the deal so you keep buying the first and stop paying full freight for the second. How I find out which one you are buying: The evidence sits in click-to-order latency, referrer strings and code redemption, not in the network dashboard. I pull raw click and action logs by publisher and SubID from Impact, Awin, CJ or Commission Factory, join them to your order table on order ID, and read the distribution of the gap between last click and order timestamp. When a partner's clicks cluster under ninety seconds on returning customers, they are claiming credit at the checkout, and I treat that as the working assumption until they show me upstream placement data that says otherwise. Then I install the extension on a clean browser profile with the network tab open and walk your five highest-volume paths myself, recording whether it overwrites an existing affiliate cookie, a paid search click ID, or a direct session, and whether the coupon it auto-applies is one you actually issued. What gets renegotiated: Extension partners respond to structure, not to complaints. The instruments that move money are a separate rate for checkout-stage activity, new-customer-only qualification with returning buyers paid at a token rate or not at all, a de-duplication rule that gives paid search and owned email precedence inside a defined window, and upstream inventory bought as media rather than earned by cookie: comparison surfaces, category placements, cart-abandonment prompts. I draft the terms, take the conversation with the partner manager myself, and stay in it until something is signed. Partner managers at the large extensions negotiate this every week and expect it from a serious advertiser. They do not offer it. What I will not do: I do not build extensions, and I will not introduce you to toolbar networks that decline to name where their installs come from. Undisclosed distribution is the whole risk in this category and no rate makes it worth carrying. I also will not remove partners on principle. A first-touch comparison surface in front of a category buyer is frequently incremental, and cutting it because a conference talk said coupon extensions are fraud is an expensive way to be fashionable. Where the deal ends up: Usually not at zero. In food and beverage subscriptions the sensible landing point is a low returning-customer rate plus a paid upstream slot in a category the brand does not already dominate in search. In education the answer is often stricter, because the extension has almost no way to reach a prospective student before the enrolment decision, and the placement is worth buying only around scholarship and intake windows. Who this is not for: If your program runs under roughly three hundred affiliate orders a month, the latency distribution will not be readable and the fee is better spent elsewhere. If your commercial team cannot hold a position with a partner who threatens to drop you from their store page, the renegotiation stalls at the first call and you have bought a document. And if your only tracking is a client-side pixel with no order-level export, the audit cannot be run at all. That is a tracking problem, and it is a different piece of work.

What the seller needs from you

  1. 1Which extension and cashback partners currently appear in your top twenty by commission paid?
  2. 2Can you provide order-level exports with timestamps, and log-level click data from your network?
  3. 3Who at your company can hold a commercial position with a partner who threatens to remove you?
  4. 4What is your current de-duplication rule against paid search and email, if any?

Asked at checkout. Delivery time starts once you answer, not when you pay.
