Standing classified positions bought as a portfolio and judged pooled, because one insertion returns too few clicks to decide anything.

About this service

A classified is twenty to forty words and one link, placed in a newsletter reaching eight to twenty-five thousand people, and it will return somewhere between twenty and a hundred and twenty clicks. That is not a sample anyone can call a winner on. So I buy classifieds as a portfolio of standing positions, read them pooled, and give no slot a verdict before its sixth insertion. What is actually being bought: Position, not list size. The block directly under the lead story and the block in the footer sit in the same newsletter at the same price and do not behave the same. I ask for the position to be named in the insertion order. Publishers who will only write "in the classifieds section" get one quarter and no renewal, because an unnamed position drifts downward the moment a larger advertiser arrives. How decisions get made: A copy variant stays in rotation until it has gathered at least four hundred filtered clicks across insertions, and is then judged on what happened after the click, not on click rate. Slot renewal runs against a rolling portfolio median: a position finishing below it twice in succession comes out. This is a slower loop than most teams are used to, which is the point. The alternative is killing a good slot on a bad week and renewing a bad slot on a lucky one. Copy: The unit either reads like the newsletter or it reads like something somebody paid to insert, and the second one is skipped by readers who have been opening that letter for four years. The first five words do the work. No title case, no exclamation mark, no "learn more". A verb, one specific number, and link text that says where the link goes. I write these, and the library stays deliberately small: four live variants, not forty. Where the rates sit: Polish and wider EU trade newsletters quote 150 to 600 euro an insertion for a classified. An annual commitment takes twenty to thirty-five per cent off, and I will not sign one on a slot that has not already cleared six insertions above the portfolio median. Taking the discount before the evidence is how a year of budget ends up locked into a position nobody reads. Regulated wording inside forty words: Insurance and credit classifieds are where scope gets breached quietly, because the short format tempts everyone to push the qualifier onto the landing page. The RRSO, the representative example and the identity of the regulated entity go in the unit or the unit does not run. For pharmaceutical clients the format frequently cannot carry the mandatory wording at all, and I will say that rather than shrink a disclaimer until it technically exists. Not included: Display banners in the same newsletters, dedicated sends, affiliate or revenue share arrangements, and landing page work. A classified sends traffic to a page you already have. If that page is the weak point, the classified is not the thing to fix first, and buying more insertions will only make the weakness statistically clearer. Who this is not for: Teams that report per-insertion performance upstairs every month. The numbers are too small to survive that conversation honestly, and the pressure it creates produces exactly the decisions this method exists to prevent. Also not for anyone who wants a slot dropped after a fortnight. I would rather they keep the money than pay me to run a process they intend to interrupt.

  3. 3What is the smallest budget you are willing to leave running for two quarters?
  4. 4Are there claims your compliance or legal team must approve in a forty-word unit?
